Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1. What academic background is required for admission? Is prior training in Chinese medicine or acupuncture necessary?

A. Prior training in Chinese medicine or acupuncture is not required. Applicants must, however, meet ONE of the following two eligibility requirements:

  1. Hold a bachelor's degree recognized by Taiwan's Ministry of Education in one of the following fields: medicine, post-baccalaureate medicine, Chinese medicine, post-baccalaureate Chinese medicine, dentistry, or traditional medicine.
  2. Hold a bachelor's degree recognized by Taiwan's Ministry of Education and possess an acupuncture practitioner license.

Q2. What does the required 480-hour clinical clerkship involve? Will students perform acupuncture needling on patients?

A. Under Taiwan's medical regulations, individuals who do not hold a Taiwanese medical license are not legally permitted to perform invasive medical procedures, including acupuncture needling, on patients. Accordingly, the hospital-based clinical clerkship is observational in nature. Practical coursework, however, includes supervised needling sessions in which students practice on themselves and their peers.

Q3. Does this master's degree qualify graduates to practice acupuncture or medicine in Taiwan?

A. No. Completion of this master's degree does not confer medical licensure or authorize graduates to practice acupuncture on patients in Taiwan. Individuals seeking to practice medicine legally in Taiwan must meet the applicable statutory requirements, including passing the relevant national medical licensing examination and completing the required internship and registration procedures.

Q4. Do I need to know Mandarin to enroll in this program?

A. No. The program is taught entirely in English, and most students begin their studies without prior knowledge of Mandarin. Attending physicians and faculty members are proficient in English. However, basic conversational Mandarin is recommended to help students better understand patient interactions and make the most of their clinical learning experience.

Q5. How long does it typically take international students to complete the program?

A. The program may be completed in one to four years. Most international students complete the required coursework, clinical clerkship, and master's thesis within two years.

Q6. What are the estimated tuition and fees?

A. The estimated tuition and fees per semester are as follows:

  • Year 1: Full tuition waiver. Students are responsible only for insurance and campus internet fees, totaling approximately NTD 3,000 (USD 100) per semester.
  • Year 2: Approximately NTD 60,824 (USD 1,881) per semester, including tuition, miscellaneous fees, campus internet fees, and insurance.
  • Years 3–4, if applicable: Approximately NTD 36,995 (USD 1,144) per semester.

Note: These estimates are based on the 2026 academic year fee schedule and are subject to annual adjustments.
